Illinois State Board of Elections (Springfield Office)

Candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives in Illinois' 5th Congressional District submit nomination petitions (including signatures) to the Illinois State Board of Elections. This applies to established political party candidates during the primary filing period, as well as independent and new party candidates for the general election.

The main filing location is the SBE's Springfield headquarters at 2329 S. MacArthur Blvd., Springfield, IL 62704. Petitions can be filed in person or by mail (U.S. Postal Service only), and must arrive by 5:00 PM on the deadline.

For the March 17, 2026, primary (established parties), filing is October 27–November 3, 2025. For the November 3, 2026, general (independents/new parties), it's typically May 2026—check elections.il.gov for exact dates.
